Nature’s muse

1. What significant life experiences or events have influenced and shaped your artistic vision?

My artistic vision has always been fueled by a deep love for storytelling, both through photography and film. Growing up, I was captivated by the power of films to evoke emotions, transport you into di>erent worlds, and tell compelling stories through visuals. I’ve always been inspired by the idea that anything is possible in photography and film—things that might not exist in the real world can be brought to life visually. I’m particularly drawn to bold contrasts of light and dark, known as chiaroscuro, and the dramatic, expressive qualities of silent movies. The exaggerated emotions, the intricate sets, and the way actors communicate so much through their faces fascinate me. This love for filmmaking has influenced how I approach my photoshoots—by seeing them as narratives waiting to unfold.

Traveling to Southeast Asia with my sister also shaped my perspective. Experiencing the region’s unique culture and artwork deepened my appreciation for creative diversity and taught me that every story has layers and nuances. The vibrant colors, patterns, and symbolic artistry I encountered inspired me to embrace boldness in my work.

2. Collaboration often sparks fresh creativity. Can you share an example of a collaboration that led to an unexpected and exciting artistic outcome?

A project I’m proud of is Nature’s Muse, the shoot featured in this magazine. Shot in the Netherlands during winter, we faced temperatures near zero degrees Celsius (32°F) and overcast skies. We leaned into the moodiness of the day, playing with lighting, outfits, and a variety of photoshoot spots to create something unique.

Towards the end of the shoot, it started to rain, and we had to improvise by huddling the models under a bush to keep them and their outfits somewhat sheltered. The cramped space made it challenging to frame both the models and their clothing properly. However, this limitation turned into an opportunity during editing. I experimented with different angles, found unexpected crops, and discovered perspectives I wouldn’t have considered during the shoot itself. This experience highlighted how adaptability and teamwork can transform challenges into creative breakthroughs.

3. Walk us through a specific project that challenged your creative boundaries. How did you approach it, and what did you learn from the experience?

One particularly challenging project was a photoshoot for a creative agency intended for a newspaper and social media. The concept revolved around a triptych, with each image visualizing a different slogan: "We design your strategy," "We make you visible," and "We tell your story." Each shot focused on a unique aspect of the agency and highlighted a team member.

Starting with concept development, I helped define the agency’s message and target audience. From there, we brainstormed ideas, gathered inspiration, and planned everything—from locations and props to how we’d visually translate each slogan. Crafting three distinct yet cohesive images that told a unified story was the most challenging part. Each element, from lighting to composition, had to align with the brand’s identity.

This project reinforced that storytelling is strongest when guided by clear intentions. The process deepened my appreciation for collaboration, preparation, and finding innovative ways to merge creative freedom with brand objectives. It was rewarding to see how each photograph became a visual extension of the agency’s identity while standing strong individually.

4. In the ever-evolving art world, what do you believe sets your work apart and makes it unique or groundbreaking?

My approach to photography blends visual aesthetics with storytelling. Every shoot is like a scene from a film, where models, outfits, and locations come together to tell a story. This narrative-driven style adds emotional depth to my work, making it more than just beautiful imagery.

I aim to create something that resonates with viewers on a deeper level, combining visual elements with a cinematic, storytelling approach that feels both timeless and innovative. My work reflects a love for bold contrasts, expressive details, and moments that feel alive. This layered perspective sets my photography apart in a field where imagery often prioritizes surface appeal over narrative connection.

5. As you reflect on your journey, are there any specific goals or milestones you've set for your artistic career in the coming years?

Looking ahead, I aim to showcase my work in exhibitions, offering viewers a tactile, immersive experience with my photography. Another goal is to shoot for bigger brands, pushing my style further while collaborating with talented creatives who inspire and challenge me.

I’m also excited to explore interdisciplinary projects, blending ideas from fashion, film, and art to create concepts that feel fresh and boundary-pushing. These milestones represent my drive to grow as an artist while continuing to tell stories that resonate deeply.
