Bringing the Vintage Vibes
Photographer: Jenn Werner
1. What significant life experiences or events have influenced and shaped your artistic vision?
Since I was a little girl, I always wanted to be in a magazine with my own photos. But since I am not an agency model able to work in great productions, but a simple model that loves to produce good photos, I started to go my own way. Since then, my aim was to produce photos that are worthy of a good magazine and to do so within my own means. For that I am always looking for new ideas or like to be inspired by fashion magazines or special websites. For this editorial, I was inspired by an outdoor editorial from an international Fashion Magazine. I was truly captivated by its vintage touch. As I love the sixties and seventies, I felt the need to do take up this topic, but in a studio. With Jenn and Jasmin, I found the right team to realize my project.
2. Collaboration often sparks fresh creativity. Can you share an example of a collaboration that led to an unexpected and exciting artistic outcome?
There have been many talented photographers I have worked with. But with some of them, whether they were professionals or semi-professionals, the chemistry was so special that some of my best photos were created. To me, the chemistry between model and photographer is the basis of a good collaboration. Without the right chemistry you can’t produce awesome photos. Furthermore, the best photos are often taken spontaneously or out of the situation. And sometimes luck and chance play a big part in the project.
3. Walk us through a specific project that challenged your creative boundaries. How did you approach it, and what did you learn from the experience?
For me, a good project always starts with an idea that I have in mind or that I get from another source of inspiration. I try to concretize my ideas, think about outfits and the location and then look for a suitable photographer who is willing and able to realize the project. Then I get in touch with him and explain my vision to him. If he is enthusiastic, great things can happen.
The challenge is always to stay within my own means of realization. But at the end, when everything matches and the outcome is awesome, it was worth the effort. What I have learned is that you should always listen to your gut feeling and go your own way. Stay true to your ideas, be creative and courageous.
4. In the ever-evolving art world, what do you believe sets your work apart and makes it unique or groundbreaking?
To me a photo not only has to please myself but should provoke emotions, whatever their nature. It should captivate the viewer and touch its soul. Often it needs courage and creativity or simply good gut feeling. I always try to do my very best.
5. As you reflect on your journey, are there any specific goals or milestones you've set for your artistic career in the coming years?
Currently I feel very honored to be in great magazines what I never had expected. In the next few years, I will continue my journey with new Photographers and new shooting areas.
